The university has a long history of community outreach, education of health care workers, and care delivery to vulnerable populations. A three-year grant supports the Wayne State School of Medicine and College of Nursing in establishing and spearheading the Michigan Great Lakes Area Health Education Centers, an initiative to build a cohort of diverse health care professionals and to improve primary-care access in underserved areas of the state.
